Otrera presents its next-generation nuclear reactor at CES 2025

by Jan 10, 2025News

Otrera began 2025 on a strong note by taking part for the first time in the CES in Las Vegas, the global event for technological innovation. Invited as part of the France 2030 programme, Otrera presented its modular nuclear reactor project with sodium-cooled fast neutrons, designed to provide both electricity (110 MWe) and heat (180 MWth) in a compact, industrialisable format.

A technological innovation supported by the French government

Spun out of the CEA and based at the Arbois Technopole in Aix-en-Provence, Otrera benefits from the support of BPIfrance and France 2030, which supports its fundraising through public co-financing. The startup is also supported by the ZEBOX accelerator, led by the CMA CGM Group.

A reactor designed for efficiency and safety

The Otrera reactor stands out for:

  • A modular architecture designed for mass production;

  • Closing the fuel cycle, for improved material sustainability;

  • Four integrated safety barriers;

  • A high level of technological maturity, accelerating time to market.

These elements enable the company to target a first commissioning by around 2032.
