Otrera New Energy, and the Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) signed an MOU on September 30th to explore the possibility to share their knowledge of loop type sodium-cooled fast nuclear reactors (SFR). This collaboration represents a significant milestone in Generation IV reactor research, promising safer, more sustainable, and more efficient energy .
A Japanese experience is helpful for Otrera’s development of loop type sodium-cooled fast nuclear reactors.
Sodium-cooled fast reactors (SFR-Na) are recognised as a key technology for the future of nuclear energy. They offer significant advantages in terms of safety, fuel efficiency, and radioactive waste reduction. OTRERA and JAEA will start exchanging information and discussing potential areas of collaboration based on the MOU.
« By combining French expertise in sodium fast reactors and JAEA’s extensive experience in SFR operation, particularly JOYO, the sodium-cooled fast reactor located in Ibaraki Prefecture, we are accelerating the development of technologies that address global energy challenges. »
— Frédéric Varaine – President of Otrera New Energy
« International cooperation is essential to advance nuclear research and we are pleased to explore opportunities for collaboration with OTRERA. »
— Hideya Otaki – Director of Overseas Business Strategy Department of JAEA
