Founded by Frédéric Varaine, a recognized nuclear expert, Otrera New Energy represents a new milestone in France’s energy industry. Leveraging his experience and expertise within the CEA, where Frédéric notably led the Astrid project, he decided to create Otrera to bring to life his vision of an excellent nuclear sector.
Otrera New Energy aims to develop a 300 MW thermal fourth-generation nuclear reactor, offering sustainable energy solutions, enhanced sovereignty, and increased competitiveness for France and Europe. With a resolute commitment to safety and innovation, Otrera strives to push the boundaries of nuclear technology to address the climate and energy challenges of the century.
Frédéric Varaine, founder of Otrera, states:
We are delighted to launch Otrera New Energy and continue our mission to provide clean and sustainable nuclear energy. Leveraging our experience within the CEA, we are confident that our fourth-generation reactor will have a significant impact on the global energy transition.
Otrera has also submitted a funding application under the “Innovative Reactors” call for projects from the Public Investment Bank (BPI). A hearing was organized by the institution on Wednesday, June 28, to determine the project’s credibility. As part of its funding application, Otrera is confident in obtaining the necessary resources to realize its ambitious project. The objective is to build a cutting-edge, efficient, and sustainable fourth-generation nuclear reactor, utilizing best practices and adhering to the highest safety standards.
